Hi Kent. As you found it's to allow you to switch between two tunes. You could probably reuse the eprom (it's erasable under a UV light) if you have a burner that's compatible with that chip. I wouldn't use whatever tune is on it in your car though. Probably wouldn't be very healthy for it :) There's actually nothing to keep you from reading it other than having the right equipment and the right software. One of my old boat anchor eprom burners has a software selection for those TI eproms. As you found, NISTune software takes into account for multi-tune chips. Another reason to go NISTune.
